All GrUVi lab members attended SIGGRAPH, the premier graphics conference, held in Vancouver Convention Center, August 10-14, 2014. Graduate students Rui Ma and Ibraheem Alhashim presented their papers in the technical papers program. Richard Zhang was a speaker in the Course program. Ping Tan, our new faculty member, was on the 2014 Technical Papers Program. See you all next year!
GrUVi alumni, Oliver van Kaick, who completed his Ph.D. in 2011 under Richard Zhang, will take up a faculty position at the School of Computer Science, Carleton University, in Ottawa, Canada. After graduatation, Oliver spent a year as a MITACS Elevate postdoc, and then was awared an Azrieli Fellowship to do his postdoc at Tel Aviv University, under Prof. Daniel Cohen-Or.
Andrea Tagliasacchi, GrUVi Ph.D. student who is doing an academic visit at INRIA, France, has been invited to give a talk at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) on "Geometric Skeletons". The talk was hosted by Mark Pauly's group.
Supported by a recently awarded NSERC Michael Smith Study Supplement, Andrea will be visiting the GEOMETRICA group in Sophia-Antipolis for the period Sep.2012--Feb.2013. He will be working within Pierre Alliez's group, applying Optimal Transport theory to tackle problems in robust surface reconstruction.
